Common Causes of Neck Pain
There are many potential causes of neck pain, but it's becoming increasingly common for neck pain and related problems to be caused by use of technology. Specifically, the use of tablets, laptops, smartphones, and other devices can put a lot of strain on the neck. In fact, chiropractic professionals have even coined a term for upper cervical conditions caused by poor posture while using technology: "text neck."
Think about it: when you're standing or sitting with your go-to electronic device (smartphone, tablet, etc.) in front of you, your neck tends to be craned forward and down, which in-turn puts a great deal of strain on your neck muscles and the upper vertebrae of the spine. Your neck wasn't made to support the weight of your head in that position for extended periods of time. However, through the increased use of computers and other electronic devices, your upper spine is strained and neck pain results. This has become an increasingly common problem with games such as Pokemon Go.
Chiropractic Treatment for Neck Pain
In addition to taking measures to improve your posture and reduce your use of handheld electronics, there are chiropractic treatment options that can be effective in treating text neck and other causes of neck pain. Here in our office, for example, we offer chiropractic adjustments and massage therapy as a means of relieving strain on the muscles and reducing pressure on the vertebrae.
