How Our Dallas Chiropractors Help Treat Scoliosis

How Our Dallas Chiropractors Help Treat Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a spinal condition that refers to an abnormal curvature of the spine itself. In more severe cases, scoliosis may be visible in that an affected person's body may seem to tilt to one side, or the hips or shoulders may appear misaligned. In left untreated, scoliosis can progress over time and worsen, eventually causing strain on the internal organs, back and neck pain, and other complications as well.

Here at APEX Wellness Center, we address the underlining cause of scoliosis with chiropractic treatment in the Dallas, Carrollton, Richardson, and Addison areas.

Diagnosing Scoliosis

Typically, screening for scoliosis is done by a child's physician starting around age 12; the earlier scoliosis is caught, the better the chances for successful treatment. In adults, scoliosis may be diagnosed through X-rays or, depending on the severity, through a simple exam from a doctor. Typically, any curvature of the spine measured at greater than 30 degrees will require treatment.

Chiropractic Treatment of Scoliosis

The specific type of treatment for scoliosis will vary based on the severity of the case. For example, a curvature of around 30 degrees may be corrected through chiropractic care, such as massage therapy, cold laser therapy, or a series of spinal adjustments. These treatments can help to prevent the further progression of the condition and, in some cases, may even help to reverse the curvature of the spine and provide relief to internal organs.

Unfortunately, curvature of 70 degrees or more typically needs to be treated through spinal surgery.
