What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome refers to a condition where the median nerve (which is located in the wrist) becomes compressed. The condition is most common in those with jobs that require repetitive hand and wrist motions, such as typing or sewing. This condition occurs when the wrist is improperly positioned while the hands are in use and excessive pressure is placed on the median nerve, preventing it from traveling to the hand.

Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

The most common symptoms are Carpal Tunnel Syndrome include pain, tingling, and numbness in the hands. Typically, these sensations will occur around the thumb and index fingers first, but may spread throughout the entire hand or even up the arm to the elbow region. People with Carpal Tunnel also tend to exhibit difficulty gripping objects, general weakness in the affected hand(s), and impaired fine finger movements.

If you are exhibiting any of the above signs of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, it is recommended that you see a doctor for an official diagnosis.

Our Chiropractic Treatment for the Dallas, Addison, Carrollton, and Richardson Communities for Carpal Tunnel

If you have been diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and live in the Dallas, Addison, Carrollton, and Richardson areas, the good news is that there are a variety of chiropractic treatment options available. Many patients prefer to explore chiropractic treatments as a first choice because these treatments are non-invasive and drug-free, so there's no need to worry about adverse side effects from medications or invasive procedures, such as surgeries.

Here in our office, we offer several treatment options for Carpal Tunnel patients to find relief from their symptoms. One of the more common treatments we provide is that of massage therapy, which involves the application of focused pressure to the shoulder, arm, and wrist muscles. This can help to relieve pressure on the median nerve, thus resulting in a reduction in pain and numbness in addition to improved use and strength of the hands.

In addition to massage therapy, we may also recommend cold laser therapy for Carpal Tunnel treatment; we find that cold laser therapy can be effective in relieving pain caused by Tunnel Syndrome—especially when used in conjunction with massage therapy and essential oils. When you come into our office, our chiropractic team will work with you to come up with a customized treatment plan that best suits your needs and lifestyle.
