Cold Laser Therapy FAQ
What is Cold Laser Therapy?
A "cold" laser device emits low-level waves of energy that never heats injured tissue beyond 98.6 F (your normal body temperature). By sending light impulses into painful areas at wavelengths between 600 and 950nm, cold laser therapy minimizes scattering of photons (the elements composing light) and maximizes absorption of healing photons by damaged muscles and ligaments. In addition, cold laser energy can be adjusted to penetrate deep into joints or treat shallow tissue damage using shorter wavelengths.
What are the Benefits of Cold Laser Therapy?
- It’s noninvasive and painless. The stimulation of nerves may produce a warm, tingling sensation that subsides shortly after treatment.
- You are not required to take any medications nor be injected with any. Cold laser therapy is a holistic method of resolving numerous musculoskeletal conditions producing chronic pain and stiffness.
- Not only does cold laser therapy reduce on-site inflammation, but it also reduces inflammation affecting other areas of the body.
- It helps restore weak immune system functioning and stimulates natural healing of damaged nerves and tissues. It generates healthy, new cells to promote healing while minimizing development of scar tissue.
What Conditions Respond to Cold Laser Therapy?
Neuropathologies, pain syndromes (strains, sprain, etc.), acute sports or work-related injuries and chronic pain disorders such as fibromyalgia and arthritis. Our chiropractors will perform a thorough evaluation of your overall health to determine whether cold laser therapy is the ideal method for resolving your pain.
Is Cold Laser Therapy FDA-Approved?
Yes. The U.S. FDA approved "low-level laser therapy" (such as soft, non-thermal, biostimulation and cold laser therapy) as an effective method for relieving most forms of musculoskeletal pain.
How Long Does a Cold Laser Therapy Session Take?
Session length depends on the severity of the condition. Most CLT treatments take less than 15 minutes.
Will I Feel Pain Relief Right Away?
Some people experience excellent results within the first two visits. Others require more than two treatments for improvement. Degenerative conditions such as osteoarthritis or spondylosis may require regular CLT treatments.
